I have two answers to this question:
1. No, there doesn't seem to be a proposal yet for this feature. But a
gentleman named Fernando Chucre posted some code on the Zend_Db mailing list
for such a feature recently. Perhaps he'll develop a proposal for it.
2. That feature wouldn't account for the scenario described by Dee. That
scenario involved some tricky use of PHP object notation, not simply column
aliasing. In other words, how would you alias "variant->colname" to
"variant_column"?
