ok, i was missing the $result = $db::query in the second one- explains
everything.

But now i am getting an error that is not down to any oversight (i hope!)

I am getting this error:

Integrity constraint violation: 1062 Duplicate entry '20410' for key 1

...even though it seems to insert the data ok?
