[fw-mvc] zend_validate messages

I would like to know how you define your own custom error messages,

I am aware of the setMessage method and also know that you could create
a class and inherit from, say zend_validate_date, and override the
$_messageTemplates array,

Is there another way of doing this or what do you guys prefer doing?
