That worked thanks. But I had to do this:
$config = new Zend_Config_Ini(APPLICATION_PATH . "/config.ini",
"runzheimer");
$this->db = Zend_Db::factory($config->db);

I was thinking you meant:
$this->db = Zend_Db::factory($config->db);
