Agreed. I prefer Prototype, but I can still use Prototype with Zend Framework. And for those that want framework integration, I'm sure there will be a ZendX_Prototype soon enough. In that respect, the selection of Dojo has no impact whatsoever on me.
The fact is, there were very strong reasons for choosing Dojo. It was an obvious choice based on the requirements.

As noted by others, we are allowing integration with other toolkits via
our Extras library -- but the default, supported version will be Dojo.
